Melissa Marcus VicenteMelissa brings a diverse portfolio in arts and wellness to this year's instructor lineup. As a 2-time world champion baton twirler, Melissa has seen much success throughout her career. She was the 1998 Senior Grand National 2-baton and 3-baton champion along with countless other state, regional, and national titles. After retiring from competing in 2010, Melissa focused on her coaching career and built her team, Synergy, who went on to win the gold medal in Level A team at the 2015 International Baton Twirling Championships along with 5 National team titles.
Melissa grew up dancing all day, every day under the teachings of famed choreographer, Mia Michaels. She continued dancing throughout her competitive career which added a grace and stillness to her twirling. She currently teaches dance at Dance Empire in Miami, Florida. Balancing both her twirling career and education, Melissa earned a BS in Exercise Science from Florida State University. She went on to earn a master's degree and doctorate degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Miami. Her dissertation was "A comparison pf physiological and psychological characteristics among sport baton twirlers, competitive cheerleaders, and modern dancers." We are so excited to have her knowledge in the areas of baton twirling, dance and exercise/nutrition at this year's camp! |
