Kylie CatesHello! I am Kylie Cates, one of the feature twirlers at Arizona State University. Next year, I will continue my studies in environmental engineering as a senior. Nothing beats game day at Arizona State! It starts with tailgating with the performances on the steps, then the roar of the crowd, taking pictures with fans and doing what I love on the football field.
Twirling has always been a big part of my life. I started twirling and dancing at the age of 2 years old. I have also been a member of the Jazz Dolls my entire life. Twirling has brought me so many opportunities to travel and meet new people. When I think about it, twirling has taught me so many life skills. For example; teamwork, determination, interview skills and most importantly to never give up no matter how tough things become. I am so fortunate that twirling is a part of my family. My grandmother and her sister opened a dance studio 57 years ago. To date, my mother and her cousin now run the studio and the entire family works there. It’s such a great atmosphere to grow up and to have such a close family that shares the same passion for baton twirling and dance. Through the years, I have been lucky enough to win 6 gold medals in my solo events during the past 3 NBTA World Championships. Those memories will last a lifetime along with my other accomplishments in twirling. This past summer I was so grateful to become the 2021 USTA Grand National Strut Champion, an event I truly fell in love with. |
